How to check ECZ results for Grade 7, 9 and 12
Examination results for Grade 7, Grade 9, Grade 12 and GCE come from the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ). There are two ways to see them: online on ECZ's website, or by SMS. Both need the candidate's examination number.
EduTrack is not ECZ and cannot look up national examination results. This guide points you to ECZ's own services.
What to have ready
- The examination number, as printed on the examination slip or the school's candidate list.
- The year the examination was written.
- The level: Grade 7, Grade 9, or Grade 12 (GCE candidates use the Grade 12 option).
- For SMS, airtime to cover the charge for each result.
Online, on ECZ's website
- Go to ECZ's website, www.exams-council.org.zm, and open the results (e-Statement of Results) service.
- Choose the level and the year.
- Enter the examination number and submit.
- The statement of results shows each subject and its grade. Save or print it as a PDF.
The address of the results service has changed between years. If a link from a news site or a forum does not work, start from ECZ's home page.
By SMS to 8383
ECZ results are also sent by SMS: type the examination number, the year and the level in one message and send it to 8383. The order of the details and the charge per message have changed between years, so check the format in ECZ's notice for that year's results before sending. A wrong format still uses airtime.
Verifying or certifying results
Employers, colleges and universities often ask for results to be verified. ECZ offers verification and certification of results; the steps and fees are on ECZ's website. The statement of results from the website is not a certificate: the certificate comes through the school or examination centre.
How the grades read
Grade 12 subjects are graded 1 to 9, where 1 is the best and 9 is a fail. Our page on the school grading system in Zambia sets out the bands and how a school certificate is counted.
[SCHOOL TESTS, NOT ECZ]
Mid-term and end-of-term tests are marked by the school. At schools that use EduTrack, parents can see those results and download the report card on their phone, with no account, at check results, using the details the school gives them.
Questions parents ask
I lost the examination number. What now?
Ask the school or examination centre where the candidate wrote: they hold the candidate list.
The website says no results found.
Check the year and level, then the number digit by digit. If the results have only just been released, the service may be busy; try again later.
Can I check results for someone else?
Yes, with their examination number, year and level.
